Summary

The novel that this film is based on is entitled "The   Catcher in the Rye." The novel was written by author J.D. Salinger and was published in 1951. The Catcher in the Rye is set around the 1950s and is narrated by a young man named Holden Caulfield. The events he narrates take place in the few days between the end of the fall school term and Christmas, when Holden was sixteen years old. 























































































Synposis

      This film is based on the novel, “The Catcher in the Rye” by J.D Salinger. The Catcher in the Rye is about teenager named Holden Caulfield who is 15 years of age. “The Catcher in the Rye” is set in New York in the time period of the 1950s. The story begins when Holden is about to leave Pencey Prep, yet another private school that Holden has flunked out of. He goes to New York City, leaving Pencey a few days before he was supposed to and without his parent’s knowledge. In the story, Holden feels a sense of desperation and depression. He is trying to find himself and the meaning of life but carries a lot of angst and anger toward others and society. In his despair, he attempts to ease his suffering with drinking and women. He is very lonely and in need of someone to talk to, which is evident in his interactions with others. During the story we see Holden developed and change as he goes on a journey in search of meaning and truth.
